GENERAL DESCRIPTION: On the outskirts of Baracoa flows the river Miel (honey). According to legend, anyone who bathes in the river will stay forever in Baracoa. The story comes from two lovers – he was from Baracoa, she was a young French woman fleeing the Haitian Revolution. After she swam in the river on a moonlit night, she was compelled to stay with her beloved in his homeland.

In October 2013, the Hostal Río Miel opened, its name paying homage to the mystic river. Cuba Travel Network was at the inauguration and now you, too, can enjoy this newly renovated property.

The three-story hotel is on Baracoa’s seaside promenade (Malecón), opposite the legendary Hotel La Rusa. From here, you can smell, see and hear the ocean.

With only 12 rooms, this simple hotel offers an hospitable, intimate stay. There’s also a lobby bar (with snacks) and Wi-Fi. Guests with rental cars will appreciate the private (free) parking lot in front. Interesting city sights can be reached on foot.

The reception of Hostal Río Miel can organize a visit to the swimming pools of Hotel El Castillo or Hotel Porto Santo (subject to availability).

The ride to Baracoa on the majestic La Farola mountain road is an adventure in itself.
